When we collect personal information
If you are a student at the University of Edinburgh, your details, including your email address, will be automatically held by us in our membership database, unless you have opted out of Students' Association membership.
Data sharing with the University of Edinburgh
We have a data-sharing agreement with the University of Edinburgh. This agreement permits the transfer of part of your personal information from the University to the Students' Association for the purposes of allowing us to provide you with support services.
The details held are the ones you gave the University of Edinburgh on registration. If you wish to alter your registration details you can do so by contacting the University Registry.

How we use your information
Use of personal data is compliant with the GDPR and specifically with the 6 principles that are set out within it, requiring that data be:
- Processed lawfully, fairly and in a transparent manner in relation to individuals;
- Collected for specified, explicit and legitimate purposes and not further processed in a manner that is incompatible with those purposes;
- Adequate, relevant and limited to what is necessary in relation to the purposes for which they are processed;
- Accurate and, where necessary, kept up to date; every reasonable step must be taken to ensure that personal data that are inaccurate, having regard to the purposes for which they are processed, are erased or rectified without delay;
- Kept in a form which permits identification of data subjects for no longer than is necessary for the purposes for which the personal data are processed; and
- Processed in a manner that ensures appropriate security of the personal data, including protection against unauthorised or unlawful processing and against accidental loss, destruction or damage, using appropriate technical or organisational measures.
Disclosure of personal information
Your personal information will not be sold, traded, or rented to individuals or other entities.
However, we may disclose your personal information if we believe in good faith that such disclosure is necessary to:
- Comply with any relevant legal obligations or
- Protect and defend the rights or property of the Students' Association
User Anonymity
All Writer-Proofreader relations are anonymous. At no point the app will share your details with another student. However, the staff do have access to student data and can check all the submissions and comments if necessary.

Our website and app comply with the GDPR. All data processed is stored securely within the EEA.
